Yoga with a cause

As a benefit for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, Vineyard Complementary Medicine is offering a Winter Renewal Retreat. At the retreat, partake in yoga, meditation, body and Qi balancing treatments. The event is on Saturday, March 29, from 8:45 am to 4 pm. The cost is $150 if you register before March 19; $175 after. Vacation solution

For one week in April, the Martha's Vineyard Cultural Collaborative offers an educational program for children involving six of the Island's cultural organizations. From April 21-April 25, the Vacation Adventure Program will take children to The FARM Institute, Featherstone Center for the Arts, Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary, Martha's Vineyard Museum, Polly Hill Arboretum, and The Yard. Each day, children will meet with educators, from 8:30 am to 3 pm, at a different location. The program is open to children in grades one through five. Early bird registration is $200, and must be completed by March 21. Regular registration is $250, and due by April 4. Scholarships are available. A second session will be held from June 23-June 27. Clean shores

On Friday, March 7, Tisbury school students and others met at Owen Park for their first beach clean-up organized by the school P.T.O. The students collected a large amount of trash, and plastic bottles were recycled. Cronig's Market donated biodegradable bags and hot chocolate to keep the kids warm. The next organized beach clean-up will be April 4 at 3 pm; all are welcome to join.

Spring FARM-ing

The FARM Institute in Katama announces their spring program schedule, which begins Tuesday, April 1. Programs include after-school sessions for grades one through five, Farmers-in-Training for students age 10 and up with previous experience on the FARM, and the Saturday afternoon work program for children age five and up. Wanted: Old, nautical photographs

The producer of the documentary film on Island Schooner Captain Zeb Tilton is looking for pictures to use in the film. Specifically, he is looking for the photos of the following family members: Zeb's parents George and Hannah Tilton, wife Edith Mayhew and her children, and of his other marriage to Grace MacDonald. Also sought are photos of Zeb's mates on his Schooner "Alice S. Wentworth:" Alton Tilton, Tom Tilton, Charlie Marthinusen, John Olsen, and Rosalie Tilton (Zeb's daughter). Lastly are photos of other famous sea captains: Hartson Bodfish, Thomas Mellon, Valentine Pease, Parker Hall, and Ralph Packer, as well as pictures of early sheep herding on the Island and the wreckage of Zeb's "Wentworth" after it was destroyed by a storm at Pier 4 in Boston.
