RCBL season wanes

The RCBL season is winding down. After next Monday's games, the league will begin playoffs to crown one of its four teams the 2008 champions.

Last Monday the Bulls had their way with the Celtics, 129-87. Bullish Jason O'Donnell and Ryan Murtha, each with 36 points, led scorers. Jeff Nader (23) and Brian Scott (21) scored more than half of the Celts' total.

In the second game of the twin bill the Lakers ran out of steam and bowed to the Heat, 97-86.

The Lakers started well and ran up a 20-9 lead by the mid-point of the first quarter. But treys by Sandy Fisher, Jason Dyer (2) and Tim Scott (3) made quick work of the lead and after 12 minutes the score was 26-25.

By the half-time break the Lakers' one-point advantage held, 48-47.

The Heat resumed its long-range attack in the third period dropping five, two each by Dyer and Scott. Nick Viera ran off 11 points to power the Heat to the fore, 72-71.

The final quarter belonged to the Hot Ones, despite Jeff LaBell's three bombs.

Jason Dyer's game-high 26 points included six three-pointers for the Heat. Tim Scott scored all but two of his 23 points from long range. Nick Viera tossed in 21.

Jeff LaBell (24) and Heath Estrella (23) were high for the Lakers.

RCBL standings: (1) Lakers 8-3, (2) Bulls 7-4 (2) Heat 7-4 (4) Celtics 0-11.
