Bernard Peter Royer of Summit Avenue in Oak Bluffs died on Sunday, March 16, at his home surrounded by his loving daughter, Kendal Royer, his former wife, Carol Avides, his loving girlfriend, Helen Uusitalo and faithful dog, Bruno. He was 52.
Bernard was born on November 16, 1955 in Leominster and moved with his parents, John H. Royer and Eva Marie (Turbide) Royer, to Bourne for a period of time before returning to Leominster and graduating from Leominster High School.
Mr. Royer spent eight years in the Air Force and traveled from Sacramento, Calif., to Madrid, Spain and Alaska. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant from McClellan Air Force Base in California.
He has resided on Martha's Vineyard for the past 12 years and worked on this Island and Nantucket for various companies as a painter and carpenter.
Bernard was a member of the VFW Post 9261 in Oak Bluffs.
He enjoyed biking, boating, snorkeling, photography, music, painting, and drawing.
He is survived by his father, John H. Royer, and step-mother, Taimi Royer of Centerville; his loving companion, Helen Uusitalo of Oak Bluffs; his daughter, Kendal Royer, of Leominster; and his son, Christopher Royer, of Minn.; and his former wife Carol Ann (Sharos) Aviles of Leominster. He was predeceased by his mother, Eva Marie Royer.
His memorial service will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery on Vineyard Avenue in Oak Bluffs on Saturday, March 22 at 11 am with military honors provided by the Martha's Vineyard Veterans.
