Operafest 2008
High school and college students who love opera take notice: Operafest 2008, a two-week intensive professional training program, will be held on the Island this year. Usually held in Tolentino, Italy, the program presents Claudette Peterson and David Kline to teach, along with the Island's own Dan Murphy, who will serve as choral conductor and accompanist.
On Monday, March 31, Ms. Peterson and Mr. Kline will present a master class at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School for interested students. The class begins at 12:40 pm and will last approximately two hours. The event is sponsored by ARTS Inc. in association with The Vineyard Playhouse. For more information, call Kate Hancock at 508-693-6450 ext. 19, or 508-693-1667.
Capawock opera
To celebrate the success of the Capawock Theatre's winter opera series from the La Scala Opera and Radiotelevisione Italiana, the Theatre is offering a bargain price opera this Sunday: Donizetti's comic opera "L'Elisir D'Amore" (The Love Potion). The performance stars tenor Rolando Villazón as Nemorino and Anna Netrebeko as his beloved Adina, and was conducted by Alfred Eschwé. Thrown into the performance with only a few weeks notice, the two stars have received rave reviews, perhaps for their on-stage kiss which lasted one minute.
"L'Elisir D'Amore," Sunday, March 30, 2 pm, Capawock Theatre, Vineyard Haven. $6.
