Waiting for real spring weather is kind of like waiting for the Red Sox to be winning games again. You know it is coming, but please hurry up. I get calls from my family in South Carolina telling me they have to mow their lawn every week now and might have to turn on the air conditioners and here I am piling on extra sweaters and trying to make the heating fuel last a bit longer. Worst of all, I know come August, I will be waiting for cooler weather again.

Learn and vote. Today is voting day for Oak Bluffs. Please read your warrant and vote accordingly. Remember, you may only be one person, but your vote counts.

Please come and support the Swan family this Saturday at the P.A. Club. A pasta dinner will be served and there will be chances available for some wonderful prizes.

We send birthday smiles to David Tchorz and David Hill who celebrated on April 7, Michael Rebello on April 12, Sarah Neubert on April 13, and Nicholas Ben David on April 15. Tevin Antone Araujo, the youngest son of Misty and Michael Araujo, celebrates his very first birthday on April 10.

Remember that today and Wednesday, April 16, will be half days at school for conferences, and students will be dismissed at 12 noon.

Tomorrow night is the famous (or infamous) talent show at the Oak Bluffs School. This is always most entertaining and for more information on times etc., you may call the school.

For many years the school has been fortunate enough to have had volunteers who gave of the their time and energy to organize and supervise movie afternoons. While they still have many people who generously give of themselves in the PTO, it is not enough to run this very popular event so it is with great regret that the movie afternoon must be canceled.

I had a nice chat with "The Queen of Avon" Grace Frye about her birthday. She was 90 on March 28 and as she said her birthday was wonderful and the celebration lasted longer than a week. She received many phone calls, cards, and beautiful flowers and gifts that ranged from a hair-do to a present of Island scallops. Her good friend Rita Meyers took her to Foxwoods on the senior's trip there. Then she was treated to dinner at the Ocean View by her son Vincent. Daughter Gracie and her son-in-law treated her to dinner in Vineyard Haven. It was wonderful to speak with her again and we shared memories of her Avon Days when it was a "social event" to have her come to our houses with her merchandise.

On Wednesday, April 16, at 10:30 am, the poetry group will meet at the Oak Bluffs library. Come and share and listen to personal and published works of poetry. This group will meet on the third Wednesday of each month. Join them at 10 am to enjoy refreshments at the weekly coffee time before the meeting.

There will be an Employer Workshop on New regulations for Employees Health Insurance tonight from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Martha's Vineyard Regional High School Library Conference Room. This workshop is sponsored by the Martha's Vineyard Women's Network.

Alumni of the Tisbury High School - yes, there were once three high schools on the Island - are getting ready for class reunions this year. The class of ‘53, my class, is planning some celebrations in the end of June for their 55th and the class of 58 will celebrating their 50th on Oct. 16, 17, and 18. So, start planning to head back here, all you people who can. The class of ‘58 may contact Seamond at idottir@aoaal.com and the class of ‘53 may contact me.

Enjoy your week and send your news along.

Peace.
