Michelle Holmberg, of Oak Bluffs, will be inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn.

Meghan Brielle Leonard studied French in Lyon during the Spring 2008 term. Meghan, a student at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H., is the daughter of Richard and Pia Centenari Leonard of West Tisbury.

The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha's Vineyard announces its spring grant recipients. The following are the recipients: African American Heritage Trail of Martha's Vineyard, Featherstone Center for the Arts, Island Affordable Housing Fund, Martha's Vineyard Community Services, Martha's Vineyard Shellfish Group, Oak Bluffs Council on Aging, Sail Martha's Vineyard, Silver Screen Film Society, Vineyard House, Vineyard Nursing Association, Vineyard Open Land Foundation, Vineyard Village, Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and The Yard.

Richard Paradise, founder of the Martha's Vineyard International Film Festival and the Martha's Vineyard Film Society, received an award for his positive effect on the tourism industry from Governor Deval Patrick at the 21st annual Massachusetts Governor's Conference on Travel and Tourism on March 29.

The American Legion Post 257 held a dinner honoring past commanders of the Post and past presidents of the Ladies Auxiliary, on April 9. The honored Auxiliary members were Ann Call, Linda Voluckas, Helen Burt, Bea Silvia, Betty Ortiz, and Pat Dorsey.

Honored post commanders who attended were Arthur Dickson, Fred Thifault, Henry Burt, Jim Dorsey, Jo Ann Murphy, Kevan Nichols, and Conrad Kurth.
