Obituary : Lawrence Street

Lawrence "Larry" Street, age 80, died peacefully at his Hingham home on Tuesday, April 22. He was born and raised in Winchester and spent most of his adult life living in Hingham with his beloved wife of 49 years, Jane (Fulton) Street. Together they raised three children; Cynthia Laura Brown and her husband, Patrick N., of Martha's Vineyard, Lawrence E. Street of Hingham, and Jennifer Frances Street of Pembroke. He was the proud Papa of six granddaughters, Kelly, Katrina, Nikole, Krista and Erin Brown, and Cordelia Jane Street. He was the brother of Earle B. Street and the late Geraldine Sulmonetti. He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews and son of the late Frances Street Jarman.
A World War II Navy Veteran, Larry attended Moses Brown, graduated from Northeastern University and obtained a Master's of Education from Bridgewater State. He pursued a career in elementary education in Whitman and Hingham.
Enthusiasts of the outdoors, Larry, Jane and family camped over 30 summers on Martha's Vineyard. An admirer of art, Larry engaged in photography and painting. An avid tennis player, he was a long-time member of the Hingham Tennis Club and the Island Country Club Tennis of Martha's Vineyard.
Larry loved music and sang in school choruses, collegiate groups and professional groups in Boston and on the South Shore. Larry's latest participation was with the Opals of the Hingham Department of Elder Services.
A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, May 10, at 2 pm at the Old Ship Church, 90 Main St., Hingham. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Old Ship Church Music Fund, c/o 107 Main St., Hingham, MA 02043 or the Opals, c/o the Hingham Department of Elder Services, 224 Central St., Hingham, MA 02043. The interment is to be private.
