Buy the book

On Saturday, June 7, from 11 am to 12 noon, children's book author Sara Pennypacker will be signing books at Riley's Reads bookstore in Vineyard Haven. Ms. Pennypacker is a New York Times best-selling author of eight children's books, including "Clementine's Letter." Published in April, this is the newest book in her popular series about Clementine, a relentlessly curious and adventurous third grade student.

Wall-to-wall art

Organizers of the Tisbury Mural Project are asking for design entries for a 10' x 48' long mural for the exterior north wall of the Stop & Shop food market on Water Street in Vineyard Haven. The criterion is that the design should reflect any aspect of the historic gateway to the Island from ancient to modern times. Entries will be accepted through August 31 and a prize of $1,000 will be awarded to the winning artist, who will be assisted in carrying out the mural by a team of art students from the regional high school. For additional information about the project, written guidelines can be found at the Tisbury Town Hall.

Lounge Music

On Sunday evening, May 25, an eager crowd gathered at Che's Lounge in Vineyard Haven to hear Peter Walker, an influential musician who shared the bill with Island singer/songwriter Jemima James. In the candle-lit setting, Mr. Walker, who composed and performed music with Timothy Leary in the 60s, played tranquil songs inspired by Indian raga and Spanish flamenco musical traditions.
