The question of the week is a mystery. One of our readers called me and asked, "Where is Vanessa." Now I know who Vanessa is, but I do not know where she is hiding out at the moment. Do any of you have that answer?

The volunteers at Windemere have a big event planned for this Friday, June 20. It will be a benefit for Windemere and takes place at the Ag Hall from 6 to 8 pm. Besides fun, there will be a silent auction, a live auction with Trip Barnes, a raffle, and of course wine and light eats. There is no charge at the door. It will be a fun night for Windemere, which is an important part of our Island.

Mrs. Berube's class at the Oak Bluffs School had a wonderful field trip to the Oak Bluffs Lagoon Pond Pumping Station recently. Mr. Perotta, the Oak Bluffs and Tisbury Water Superintendent, gave them a grand tour. It included seeing the endangered herring in the pond, the building built in 1875 and the seven wellheads. The students were greatly entertained watching the osprey try to catch the thousands of herring that had traveled there to spawn.

The school requests that students look around and return all of their library books to school. If you have lost a school library book, you are asked to replace it or pay for it so that a new copy can be purchased. If it turns up over the summer, they will be happy to pay you back.

The PTO sends a big thank you to the school administrators, teachers, parents, and volunteers who signed up for many committees and worked so very hard throughout the school year in so many different capacities. All the many events sponsored by the PTO would not have been such great successes without the help of all of you.

Don't forget 12 noon dismissal tomorrow, June 20, for the last day of school. Also be extra cautious when driving as there will be many more children moving about town and the streets for the next few months.

The Oak Bluffs Library invites baby boomers and older adults in the community to a focus group and picnic on Thursday, June 26 at 1 pm. Due to limited seating, please R.S.V.P. by June 23. You may call 508-693-9433 for questions and to sign-up.

On Thursday, July 3, at 6 pm the library will be showing "Caramel," a new DVD release, on a large projection screen. Join them for this highly acclaimed comedy/drama set in a Beirut, Lebanon beauty parlor. Popcorn and beverages will be served.

We send get-well wishes to Gerry DeBettencourt who remains a patient at Mass. General Hospital in Boston.

Charlene Radcliffe will have as her guest this summer her 18-year-old nephew Michael White Jr. Michael, who lives in Sarasota, Fla. He is looking forward to his very first visit here.

We send birthday smiles to Pam Swan, John O'Donnell, and Ret. Fire Chief Dennis Alley on June 20; Chief's grandson Jeremy Alley-Tarter on June 21, Paula O'Connor on June 22, Fran Alwardt on June 24, and Ashley Rebello on June 28.

Enjoy your week and send your news along to me.

Peace
