Family and friends of the late Phil Craig gathered Sunday at the Vineyard Haven Public Library to honor the mystery writer and remember his life in the Vineyard community.

Gathered under a tent in the sunny garden, the group heard brief remarks from Myra Stark, on behalf of the library; Cynthia Riggs, the mistress of ceremonies; and a half-dozen of Mr. Craig's family and colleagues, including fellow mystery writer William Tapply, with whom Mr. Craig co-authored three novels.

Afterward, in the cool interior of the library, the group sampled from a buffet table of foods, prepared by the Friends of the Library, from recipes Phil and his wife Shirley had gathered over 50 years, and which were published in 2006 as the cookbook, "Delish."

Each summer for the past few years, the Friends of the Library and the library trustees have held a similar program to honor an individual author's work.
