Dorothy Jenney McIntire of Berlin, Conn., and West Tisbury died on Sunday, July 20, in Berlin, having celebrated her 100th birthday in March. Born at home in Vineyard Haven on March 29, 1908, Dorothy was the only child of Rebecca Vincent and Walter Jenney and granddaughter of Jared and Sarah C. Vincent. She attended Dukes County Academy and graduated valedictorian from Tisbury High School. She was an accomplished soloist and pianist, often playing and singing at community and church events. Dorothy was one of the founding members of the Martha's Vineyard Hospital Auxiliary. She graduated from Framingham Normal School with a four-year degree and taught Household Arts, English, and Ancient History in the Edgartown school system for years.

Married in 1933 to Nelson L. McIntire, she moved to his hometown of Hopkinton. They celebrated their 50th anniversary before he died in 1984. Dorothy never outgrew her love of the Vineyard. She often submitted poetry about the Island to the Vineyard Gazette.

Through the years Dot (as she was often called) sang in various church choirs and ecumenical choruses. Her strong faith found her very involved in the Hopkinton Congregational Church. She also volunteered for the FISH Program and tutored for many years. In later years, she moved to Berlin, Conn. to be with her daughter. She was a member of the Berlin Congregational Church.
