Obituary : Alfreda Brenner

Alfreda (Cote, St. Germain) Brenner, age 97, of Oak Bluffs, where she resided at the Windemere Nursing Home since 2005, died on Friday, August 8, at the Martha's Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs, following a brief illness.

Born in Attleboro on Feb. 10, 1911, she was a daughter of the late Ovila E. and Emma (Fontaine) Cote.

Mrs. Brenner retired from Swank, Inc., Attleboro in 1973 following many years of dedicated employment.

While living locally, Mrs. Brenner attended the Roman Catholic Church in Oak Bluffs and Vineyard Haven.

She leaves her daughter Lorraine (St. Germaine, Marsden) Huffman; a granddaughter Donna (Marsden, Mercaldo) Creighton and her husband, Charles; three great grandsons, David Mercaldo, Kyle Mercaldo and Jack Creighton, all of Martha's Vineyard, in addition to several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was the widow of the late August Brenner, the sister of the late Andrew Cote, Beatrice Desjardins, Agnes Emond and Dorothy DiRenzo, and grandmother to the late David Marsden.

She enjoyed ballroom dancing, needlecraft, reading, playing bingo, and most of all, the time spent visiting with family and friends.

Burial will take place in Attleboro on Saturday, August 16.

There will be a Memorial Service held at Windemere Nursing Home, 1 Hospital Road, Oak Bluffs, Mass., on Monday, August 18, at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Windemere Nursing Home.
