School vacations and mild spring weather have contributed to a drop in blood donations. As a result the Type O negative blood supply has dropped to critical levels and is expected to dip lower through the end of the month, according to a Red Cross press release.
Type O negative blood donors are encouraged to donate blood as soon as possible. Since Type O negative blood can be used for all patients in need, it is crucial that there is a sufficient supply.
The Red Cross has scheduled a blood drive from noon to 5 pm Tuesday at the Portuguese-American Club on Vineyard Avenue in Oak Bluffs. Call 1-800-REDCROSS to schedule an appointment or visit www.redcrossblood.org.
