The Water is Life Festival, sponsored by National Geographic and World Waterway, concluded Sunday evening at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown, after a weekend full of events — from a book signing and authors’ reception to a movie screening and concert.

On Sunday, emcee and event organizer William Marks introduced a number of water-themed performances, from Duncan Ross’s Island Proclamation, the M.V. Regional High School Minnesingers, water poetry by Fan Ogilvie, and keynote speaker Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of French explorer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and advocate for the conservation and sustainable management of water resources. Scheduled to speak at Saturday’s authors’ reception at Bunch of Grapes, she was delayed in Louisana because of the oil spill. She arrived late Saturday night and appeared at the reception and concert Sunday.
