The Tisbury selectmen have scheduled a special town meeting (STM) for 7 pm, Tuesday, June 29 at the Tisbury School gymnasium to resolve the police department union’s contract settlement.
The terms of the contract were decided in binding arbitration. At the April 13 annual town meeting, voters approved a Proposition 2.5 request to pay $125,000 in back pay for three years and $100,000 to fund wages at the arbitrated amount in fiscal year 2011. However, a corresponding ballot question was defeated by 328 votes at the April 29 town elections.
The Tisbury selectmen voted to schedule the special town meeting after discussing the police contract in executive session following a public meeting Tuesday night.
Selectman Geoghan Coogan said yesterday their plan is to structure the police contract funding request so it is voted at the special town meeting, rather than as an override ballot question.
