Two candidates for the position of assistant principal at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School (MVRHS) will face final interviews next week. Neal Weaver, who currently serves as one of two assistant principals, announced in April he would explore other options when his three-year contract ends on June 30.

Michael Richard, an assistant principal at Belchertown High School, will return to MVRHS on May 25, and Anne Wagner, a teacher and former dean of students at Gardner High School, on May 26, for individual meetings with various staff members.

Principal Steve Nixon began the search process in April. He and a 13-member committee including students, parents, community members, teachers, staff, and representatives from Island organizations, reviewed a large number of applicants, selecting 18, he said.

Of those, six became semi-finalists including Mr. Richard and Ms. Wagner, and were invited for a daylong visit to the regional high school on May 7. In addition to touring the school and being interviewed, they rotated through designated meeting points during the day to give students, faculty, parents, and community members an opportunity to meet them, ask questions, and fill out feedback forms.

The committee reviewed the forms and selected Mr. Richard and Ms. Wagner for further interviews. Mr. Nixon said he would consider comments from all groups and make a final decision by the end of next week.
