This past February, Détente in Edgartown underwent renovations and an expansion. Owners Kevin and Suzanna Crowell, husband and wife, bought the condo above the restaurant to expand the dining room to the second floor, which in turn created more space for diners downstairs.
“We put in an internal stairwell, and converted upstairs to a dining room,” Ms. Crowell said. “We rearranged the existing dining room downstairs. We took out tables to give it a little more room.”
Détente, a French word that means relaxation or good relations, is just the place for that. With their extensive wine list, consistently updated menu that keeps up with available local ingredients, bar, and patio seating, the quaint Nevin Square restaurant has spread its wings.
“It was something we always thought would be fun to do,” Ms. Crowell said. “We always wanted to be able to spread out our seating a bit, but we didn’t know how it would be possible.”
Détente is currently open for dinner Monday through Saturday, and will soon be open seven nights a week through the summer.
Coming up on Wednesday, June 16, Il Tesoro at the Terrace, also in Edgartown, celebrates the 2010 season with an Opening Dinner Party. Enjoy a food and wine tasting with chef and owner AJ Black.
