What’s happening: up-Island

All is looking well for a great summer shopping experience in West Tisbury, Chilmark, and Aquinnah. One of our favorites, Chilmark Pottery, has been busy making you the perfect mug, vase, serving dish, and much more. Conroy Apothecary, who has been there for us all winter, is looking forward to seeing you choose that special greeting card or personal gift. With their location on State Road, next to up-Island Cronig’s, it make’s it easy for you to get everything you need in one trip.

Further up off of State Road, on New Lane, you will find West Tisbury’s newest store — Vineyard Knit Works. They offer a “wonderful selection of exotic yarns, commissioned knit clothing, knitting accessories and books,” according to an email this past winter from employee Donna Bouchard. Nearby you can still find Up Island Paint and Tool along with Bea’s Fabric Shop and Antiques. Continuing up-Island? Make sure to pick up an amazing, colorful, handmade vase at M.V. Glassworks for your summer flowers. A quick visit next door at Yes, We Have No Bananas could provide a great new summer beach outfit for the whole family.

If it has been a while since you have ventured out to West Tisbury, or you are just returning from a long winter, Alley’s General Store always deserves a perusal. Whether you are just in need of a good cup of coffee or you want to see the newest, unusual gift on the market, the friendly staff at Alley’s is happy to see you.

Menemsha is in full swing with all their great shops open for business. The amazing and nifty Copperworks always provides a special find. Menemsha Blues and Beetlebung both have all the clothing, keepsake gifts that you will need this summer. Be prepared to spend some quality time in Over South Antiques to find that golden nugget you need to finish off your home décor. Pandora’s Box is back again, with the hottest summer clothing selections. And don’t forget to make a visit to Harbor Crafts, which is next to The Bite.

Finally, the must-do of the season is a visit to the shops at Aquinnah. Before you start shopping, make sure to take another look at the most amazing view of the cliffs. Once you have been inspired by the views, walk through the various shops (Hatmarcha Gifts, Howwasswee Trading Post, On the Cliffs, and Stony Creek Gifts) to get your own Native American crafts and souvenirs. Remember, on the way home, go slow and keep your eyes peeled for some more of our other great shopping options up-Island.
