A Saturday morning storm did $6,000 to $10,000 worth of damage at Oak Bluffs Town Hall, library, and wastewater facilities. Town administrator Michael Dutton said either town buildings were struck by lightning, or experienced some kind of eletrical surge. “We have phone outages in town hall,” Mr. Dutton said. “We are not yet aware of the extent of the problem. All of the equipment was plugged into surge protectors designed to prevent this. We’ll be going back to those warranties, and getting ready to file a claim with our insurance company.”
On Wednesday, some phone service was still out at the library, town clerk’s office, building and health departments, and conservation commission. He said equipment to restore the phone systems should arrive on Friday.
