A special preview performance of “The Secret of the Seven Sisters” is this Sunday, August 1, at 4 pm at the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s (MVRHS) Performing Arts Center.

The piece will premier in Edinburgh, Scotland on August 20 at the International Festival Fringe.

The MVRHS Drama Department was chosen as one of the U.S. representatives for the 2010 AHSTF troupes at the Fringe Festival in Scotland, a great honor as each program must be nominated by theater professionals as well as educators and are chosen based on expansive criteria.

The BravEncore Theatre Troupe, made up of local high school students, has been fundraising for the event since they heard the news in May. They are excited to offer the Island a sneak peek of their production in the last performance before their departure.

“The Secret of the Seven Sisters” was written, directed and choreographed by Katharine Poole Murray, the drama director at MVRHS. The story tells of Maia, an orphan who discovers she is a celestial creature stolen from her family and then brought back to Earth. In an “Alice in Wonderland” type of journey, Maia embarks on a magical voyage to reunite with her family and claim her place as the seventh sister of the Pleiades. She is assisted by her guide, Kavi, and a key that unlocks mysterious elements.

This special performance will begin at 4 pm. Tickets are $10 for students and $7 for seniors.
