Mark McCarthy has been appointed athletic director at Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School. Mr. McCarthy is brother of Mike McCarthy, the high school guidance counselor. He is also returning to a job he held 20 years ago.
Born and raised on the Island, Mr. McCarthy played football, basketball, and tennis in high school, and was captain of the football and tennis teams his senior year. He graduated from the high school in 1979,
Since his first stint as athletic director, Mr. McCarthy moved to Connecticut and worked there for the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford, as a certified athletic trainer. He also ran the concussion program for the center for four years and worked at a satellite office in Farmington. Before working at the medical center, he worked for an outpatient physical therapy clinic in Connecticut for 13 years.
Mr. McCarthy has begun work already, gathering athletes for the school’s “Meet the coaches night”, August 17.
