This weekend is music-packed at the Old Whaling Church in Edgartown. Jackopierce and Ben Taylor, two nationally acclaimed groups, will perform Saturday and Sunday evenings, respectively.
Jackopierce, a band composed of singers Jack O’Neill and Cary Pierce, will visit the Vineyard for a performance on Saturday, August 14. The Dallas-based alternative rock band has sold over 500,000 CDs and toured with big names around the country. The concert Saturday night will draw people from at least 32 different states (90 percent of tickets have already been sold). Pre-sale tickets are available for purchase exclusively at jackopierce.com for $42.50 general admission and will be available at the door if the event is not sold out in advance. Doors open at 7 pm for the 8 pm show.
Ben Taylor returns to the Old Whaling Church on Sunday, August 15, at 7 pm for what’s sure to be a soulful performance not to be missed. The singer/song-writer’s soothing voice whispers and coos to songs that blend pop, rock, folk, and alternative genres. Expectations are undoubtedly high for the son of celebrated artists James Taylor and Carly Simon, yet Ben Taylor’s talent is undeniable and the singer has proven capable of standing on his own. A natural to the profession, Ben brings comfort and ease to all of his stage performances, which create an intimate atmosphere for guests of all ages. Tickets are $30 in advance ($35 at the door) for general admission, $55 for premium seating.
During the concert, view a guitar signed by legendary drummer Russ Kunkel, who has played with the likes of Joni Mitchell and James Taylor, and bassist Lee Sklar. The guitar is displayed to collect signatures from Mr. Taylor and other musicians to raise funds and awareness for Best Buddies, a nonprofit dedicated to creating friendships, leadership development, and employment for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
