The Edgartown Yacht Club was host to a regatta for 12-meter yachts during the week.

In the Traditional class, Columbia, skippered by Alain Hanover won all five races with American Eagle with Jeff Randall at the wheel.

Two ships competed five times in the Vintage class. Each race was won by Northern Light of the New York Yacht Club and Skipper Kip Curren, besting Bob Andrews and Gleam, of the Edgartown Yacht Club.

Three boats raced in the Modern class: Courageous with Ralph Isham skippering, USA with Guy Heckman at the helm, and Victory ’83 of the Corinthian YC with Dennis Williams at the helm. Winning two and coming in second three times, Courageous was the winner with 8 points. USA was right behind with two firsts, two seconds, and a third for 9 points.

Victory ’83 brought up the rear with one first, three seconds, and three thirds. Victory ’83 did not finish in two races for a score of 15.

High seas and gusty winds made for challenging sailing conditions. Some of the boats suffered damage.
