Alice Rose turns 100 on Martha’s Vineyard

Alice Rose of Oak Bluffs celebrated her 100th birthday on August 29 at a party in her backyard with family and friends. Ms. Rose and her husband, Joseph, who died in 1989, had three children — Ernestine, Stephen, and Ronald. She has nine grandchildren, one of whom is Dukes County director of veterans’ services Jo Ann Murphy. Ms. Rose also has 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Ms. Murphy put all of their names on a special birthday cake she baked and decorated for her grandmother’s party.

Ms. Rose continues to live in her own home with the assistance of family, friends, and helpers. She is well known for her beautiful flower gardens and great food.
