Girls’ soccer

MVRHS girls’ soccer team lost its season opener to D/Y at Yarmouth, Wednesday, 2-0. However, Coach Aria Nevin was pleased with her team’s showing, especially Maddie Hughes, Alayna Hutchinson, and Crystle Miske

The next day, the Island girls surprised the reigning EAC champions by tying Somerset, 1-1. Emma Forbes took full advantage of a new rule that allows a player to pass the ball to herself on a free kick. Starting at midfield, she dribbled within 15 yards, then passed to Genevieve Hammond who did not miss the opportunity.

Amanda Rose made 15 saves in goal.

Over the weekend the Island girls beat Ursaline Academy and tied Scituate. Monday the girls lost to visiting Barnstable, 1-0 for a 1-2-2 record
