The hurricane-hurried conclusion to summer on Martha’s Vineyard ends a pretty good eight month run for the Steamship Authority, better on the Vineyard routes than for Nantucket.

Vineyard passenger volume rose 2.7 percent over the period, compared with the first eight months of 2009. Automobile traffic rose 1.7 percent, and trucks (freight) rose 1.1 percent.

For Nantucket service, passengers rose just four tenths of a percent over the period, autos rose 1.7 percent, and trucks decline a sharp 3.5 percent.

Measured in dollars, for the line as a whole, passenger revenue for the period was up 1.3 percent compared with the same period a year ago. Auto revenue was up 1.7 percent, but truck dollars fell 1.2 percent.
