Loving husband, father of four, and grandfather of eight, Robert Carl Palmer Jr. died Sunday, September 26, on Martha’s Vineyard. He was 69 years old. He was Nono to his grandchildren and family, in whom his giving spirit lives on.

He was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and attended Euclid High School, Class of 1958, where he met and fell in love with Mary Virginia Nowacek, who was to become his beloved wife and companion for more than 50 years.

He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1962 and received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business in 1963. He found his work in banking, first in New York at Chemical Bank. He graduated from New York Law School, receiving his JD and passing the bar in 1969. That same year he completed his service in the Air National Guard and welcomed their first child, Mary Susanna, in Bronxville, New York.

The Palmers moved to Summit, New Jersey, where the family grew with the addition of Emily Lynore, Carl Patrick, and Rebecca Ruth. From there they moved to South Florida where Carl continued his banking career with several banks large and small, most recently serving as the Chairman and CEO of Pointe Bank, a community bank based in Boca Raton. Community banking was his calling, where he built community in addition to serving it, and where he knew everyone by name, from the biggest clients to the support staff. He was trusted advisor to many wonderful friends over the years.

Mary V. and Carl made their home and raised their family in many wonderful places over the years, from Summit, New Jersey to Coral Gables, Naples, and Boca Raton, Florida. The Palmers were always most at home in West Chop, where they cherished the community and celebrated family in their home for more than 30 years.

We were blessed to know him.His funeral mass will be celebrated in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Massasoit Ave, Oak Bluffs at 11 am on Saturday, October 2. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, State Road, Vineyard Haven. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Camp Jabberwocky.
