Simon says

It’s words and pictures at the Simon Gallery this weekend. The Main Street, Vineyard Haven gallery will host two book signings on Saturday, October 9, from 5 to 8 pm: Diane McManus Jensen’s “The Art of Collecting,” featuring the homes of 23 art collectors; and “Drown,” a murder mystery set in the music industry, authored by criminal attorney Albie Cullen. The authors will be on hand to greet gallery-goers. Adding to the fun, Peter Simon is offering a 25-percent discount on his framed photos.

Making waves off-Island

Island native Dan VanLandingham is the featured artist of the month at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where he is finishing up studies for a MFA degree. Mr. VanLandingham shows in galleries in the Oak Bluffs Art District — including Dragonfly Gallery, which will close after Columbus Day, October 11.

Jessica Pisano, who owned the Belushi-Pisano Gallery on the Vineyard for several years, works on her own art full-time in her Newport, R.I. studio. In addition to showing at Dragonfly Gallery, her paintings are on exhibit this month at the Bruce Museum Fine Arts Festival in Greenwich, Conn. and next month at Paradise City Arts Festival in Marlborough.

Coming and going

On Sunday, October 10, from 2 to 7 pm, artist Suesan Stovall will bid a winter season adieu to supporters of her Groovy Sue Gallery in Oak Bluffs. Come to Groovy Sue, 9 Spruce Avenue, to say hello and goodbye until next year. 323-842-1076
