The early duck season begins one half hour before sunrise Friday, October 15 and ends on Saturday, October 23, then resumes on November 18.
Waterfowlers must have a state and federal duck stamp and use only steel shot.
On Saturday, pheasant and quail season begins. It ends on November 27. The state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife stocks several Island properties with pheasants.
The Island once hosted a native population of quail. Skunks and raccoons and a loss of field habitat led ground nesting birds to disappear.
Wild turkey season opens on October 25 and closes on October 30. The Island’s not-so-wild turkeys are fair game for hunters with a turkey tag.
