Oak Bluffs selectman Greg Coogan was injured Monday when he fell from a roof while doing work on his home. Mr. Coogan is a teacher at the Tisbury School.

After the fall, EMTs took him by ambulance to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital. From there he was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Surgeons operated Tuesday to repair fractures in his leg.

Mr. Coogan’s large and extended family here is monitoring his progress closely. “Greg is in good hands at Mass General,” his niece Nell Coogan said yesterday. “He is doing well, and his wife Sharon is with him up there. We are all hoping he will be coming home this weekend, maybe even Friday.”

At Tuesday’s meeting of the selectmen, chairman Duncan Ross acknowledged Mr. Coogan’s absence.

“Selectman Coogan will not be here tonight, and probably won’t be for a while,” Mr. Ross said. “His wife could not say enough nice things about John Rose and the EMTs that responded. Oak Bluffs is lucky to have the kind of EMTs we have.”
