Smith to La Quinta
Scott Smith, Executive Director of Vineyard Youth Tennis, recently attended the World Conference on Tennis, hosted by the U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).
More than a thousand of the nation’s tennis teachers gathered at La Quinta Resort and Club in La Quinta, Cal. from September 27 to October 2 for educational seminars, to view new products, and to compete in tournaments.
Founded in 1927, the USPTA strives to raise the standards of the tennis profession in America offering a comprehensive continuing education program.
Reid Yennie wins R.I. gold.
On Saturday Reid Yennie of West Tisbury won the Rhode Island boys 16 USTA tournament at Riverside, R.I. by defeating the top seed, Alexander Ellwanger of Shrewsbury in the finals, 6-3, 6-1.
Reid received a bye in the first round, then defeated 6’6″ Kris Lobovitch of Newton in the round of 16 with two tie breakers, 7-6, 7-6, and 6’5″ Ivan Bunin of Ashland in the quarterfinals with a third tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-4, 11-9 and Matthew Bejian of Needham in the semis with two more tie breakers, 7-6, 4-6, 10-8.
With this win, Reid’s New England USTA ranking will be 58.
Reid trains at Vineyard Youth Tennis and is a member of the regional high school tennis team.
