The local chapter of the Coast Guard Auxiliary invites new members. “Wherever your interests lie, and whatever life skills you have, chances are the Coast Guard Auxiliary can offer you an area to serve that will enrich your life in ways you may not imagine,” auxiliary member David Pothier of Oak Bluffs said in a press release.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the United States Coast Guard. The Auxiliary directly supports the Coast Guard in all missions except military and law enforcement, according to a press release. It supports the boating public through its programs in public education, boating and marine safety, homeland security, vessel safety checks, among many others.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens, 17 years of age and pass a basic background check. There are no upper age limits or height or weight standards. Auxiliarists must be physically able to perform certain tasks in the operational activities in which they may choose to participate. There are no minimum service hours required.

There will be an informational meeting sponsored by Flotilla 11-2 at Station Menemsha at 9:30 am on Saturday. For more information call David Pothier at 508-693-6544.
