Cross-country runners compete at Brown

Martha’s Vineyard varsity and junior varsity cross-country runners competed at the Brown University meet Saturday, October 16. More than 3,000 runners from N.Y., N.J., R.I., Conn., N.H., and Mass. vied in two divisions.

The MV varsity boys finished 12th of 27 teams with the best average time of the season, 17:40.

Willy Nevin was 34th in 23:37; Emily Cimeno was 43rd at 24:17, Kassidy Bettencourt was 44th in 24:18, Ashley Dexter was 45th at 24:20, Lily Morgan was 49th at 24:34, Sierra Simon was 98th, and Larissa Cacique 100th.

The MV JV girls were 9th in a field of 17 teams.

Freshmen ran 4K races. Thorpe Karabees was 58th in 15:17; Galen Mayhew was 103rd at 15:57; Chris Serpa was 181st in 17:12.

MV freshmen girls were Willoe Maynard, 19th in 16:56; Lilly Neville, 23rd in 17:08; Sophie Ulyatt, 53rd in 18:30; and Lucy Norris, 71st at 19:08.
