McHugh brothers meet

The tennis-playing McHugh brothers met for the first time as collegiate competitors at the Merrimack College courts, Friday, October 8 when Merrimack hosted Tufts.

Andrew opened the afternoon playing third doubles for Tufts with Axel Olson versus Merrimack’s Liam Hoare and Chris Barnhart. Andrew’s blistering forehand keyed the win for Tufts in the pro set, 8-4.

Tim played sixth singles for Merrimack. His perseverance in the wind brought him from a first set deficit to win the match, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Andrew started at fifth singles for Tufts against Sean Pahler, a seasoned player known for his speed and shot selection. Andrew held his own before bowing, 3-6, 3-6. Both brothers contributed a winning point to their team’s total. Tufts won the match, 5-4.

Big doings at the Center

The Vineyard Tennis Center Workout & Spa will hold a Halloween extravaganza on Saturday, October 30, from 3 to 5 pm. Set to music, there will be a prize for the best costume. Cost is $25 per player.

The Tennis Center will also host the 15th annual Turkey Open, November 12-14. The tournament will be in honor of Stan Hart and Don Davis and benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
