A holiday meal for those in need

Again this year the Vineyard Committee on Hunger, Serving Hands, and Family to Family are working together with Reliable Market to ensure that Island families in need will have a great Thanksgiving meal and December holiday meal. Last year more than 120 meals were provided over the Thanksgiving and December holidays, but more were needed.

For $25, Reliable is putting together a special Thanksgiving basket that includes a turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, onions, carrots, apples, oranges, fresh butternut squash, canned pumpkin, and gravy.

Serving Hands distribute the meals on November 10 and December 15. Islanders are encouraged to donate whatever they can to make more of these meals possible. Checks should be made out to the Vineyard Committee on Hunger (Family-to-Family Program) and sent to the VCOH, PO Box 4685, MA 02568. West Tisbury Mill Pond Options

Prompted by the discussion in West Tisbury on how to restore and manage the Mill Pond, Beth Lambert of the Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration (DER) will speak on Saturday on how the state is helping local communities restore natural stream ecology. Ms. Lambert is the DER’s River Restoration Program Coordinator. Part of the Mass. Department of Fish and Game, DER evaluates and undertakes stream restoration projects by partnering with local and regional river advocacy groups. Restoration projects follow an ecosystem-based sub-watershed approach focusing on the factors that most impact river and stream health. Ms. Lambert will speak at the West Tisbury Library, starting at 4 pm.
