Martha’s marathoners

Among the hordes running the New York Marathon were at least two Islanders, Marilyn Vukota of Edgartown who completed the run in 3:52:12 and placed a commendable 11,349th overall. She was the 2,148th female; and Pamela Thomas, who was 11,109th overall and was the 2,086th female. Her time was 3:51:33.

Flag football fray

The Rams defeated the Dolphins in week four of the MV Boys & Girls Club Flag Football League then bested the Seahawks in week five and now stand atop the league with a perfect 4-0 record.

The Bears also won both of their games, topping the Cowboys in week three and outscoring the Dolphins in week five.

In other flag football action the Patriots beat the Seahawks, then fell to the Cowboys.

League Standings: Rams 4-0; Bears 3-1; Dolphins 2-2: Patriots 1-3; Seahawks 1-3; Cowboys 1-3.

Basketball looms

The Samuel D.Leighton Memorial Basketball 3rd and 4th grade Leagues will begin play the week after Thanksgiving and continue to the end of January. Deadline for 3rd and 4th grade registration is November 19; the 5th and 6th grade league will begin play the week of January 31 and continue to April 1 (no foolin’).

School League soccer finals Saturday

The MV Youth Soccer School League championships will be decided Saturday at the West Tisbury School.

The girls’ consolation game kicks off the action at 10 am with Edgartown facing Tisbury/Charter School United. West Tisbury and Oak Bluffs will contest the girls’ final at 11 am.

On the boys’ side, Up-Island and Oak Bluffs take to the pitch for the final at 2 pm.
