Artist Kara Taylor held an opening reception this past Saturday at her Vineyard Haven gallery, Kara Taylor Fine Art. The exhibit, The Incomplete Story…a self portrait, features photographs of herself taken in multiple exposures and altered in Photoshop. The digital images are then printed and glued to the surface of wood boxes, and given a surface treatment of an encaustic wax medium — a bleached beeswax mixed with damar varnish.
From Ms. Taylor’s written description at the gallery: “The incomplete story is a personal story; a series of portraits exploring the nature of duality and transition…There is a fine line between fact and fiction in photography. The factual because of its inherent realist quality, the fictitious because of how we choose to arrange the image, thus distorting the translation of the story. The combination of these two paradigms allows for a mysterious reality. I leave the rest up to the interpretation of the viewer.”
The exhibit remains on display through Christmas. The gallery is open 11 am to 5 pm on weekends until December 15, then open every day the week before Christmas. For more information, visit 508-693-7799 or visit karataylorart.com.
