Vikings beat Pee Wee hockey team in state playdown

The Martha’s Vineyard Pee Wee State Playdown team traveled to W. Warwick, R.I., Friday for an A level tournament hosted by the West Bay Islanders Youth Hockey organization.

M.V. started off with a 4-2 win over the Providence Bears Friday night.

Saturday, the Vineyard fell to the Northern Rhode Island Vikings 7-2, but rebounded Sunday morning to beat hosts West Bay 4-2, earning a rematch against the Vikings in the championship game later in the afternoon.

Again, NRI was too strong and skated to a 7-1 victory.

M.V. travels to Dennis Saturday to play Yarmouth/Dennis for the right to represent its district in the Massachusetts State Tournament next March.

The team is composed of forwards Joe Davies, Tristan Araujo, Josh Forend, Anthony Jackson, James Sashin, Jonas Lukowitz, J.J. Mendez, Jacob Gundersen and Nainoa Cooperrider; defensemen Kylie Hatt, Nicholas Vukota, Aksel Cooperrider and Mason Jeffers; and goaltender Wyatt Jenkinson. The coaches are Joe Merry, Patrick Jenkinson, and Ronnie Jackson.
