Holiday shopping on Martha’s Vineyard

While Hanukkah is over, the Holiday Gift Giving Season is not. With Christmas closing in, time is running short to find those perfect presents for everyone on your list. Thankfully Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs have some great stores in the form of Santa’s helpers for you.

Vineyard Haven is kicking it into high gear tonight with their Friends and Family Night celebration. There will be crafts, refreshments, readings, shows, Santa, dining specials, and fabulous shopping opportunities from 3 to 8 pm. While shopping on State Road, Main Street, and in the Tisbury Market Place, make sure that you fill out your holiday raffle ticket for every $25 you spend. There will be a $500, $250 and $100 winner chosen on December 20, so it is important to shop between now and December 19 to become eligible to win.

Almost all of the stores are having specials to help spread your budget as far as possible. Kid’s specials can be had at both Riley’s Reads and the Toy Box. For those who love Island-made gifts, you have a plethora of venues to shop, from all the amazing art galleries to the collaboratives of the Artisans Gift Gallery and the Vineyard Holiday Gift Shop. You can take it a step further and become your own artisan at Beadnik’s. I say, bring on the major bling at Moonstone, CB Stark, Claudia’s, and Vintage Jewelry.

Electronics seem to always be a hot item under the tree and with specials at Radio Shack along with Crane Appliance you could be voted the best gift-giver of the season. Gifts for the whole family are easy at Rainy Day, Off Main, Two Susan’s, Mix, Brickman’s, and Trader Fred’s (to name a few). While these are some great gift leads, your best bet is to bring your reusable shopping bags and plan on walking around town to see all of the shops with their wares.

Oak Bluffs has also jumped into the raffle fray with their Santa Sweepstakes. Their sweepstakes only requires that you make a purchase at any of the 30 participating stores and restaurants to become eligible to win a $25 gift certificate from each participating venue. The winners will be chosen right after the Sweepstakes closes at the end of the day on December 20. Wow, wouldn’t that be a great gift right before Christmas, and with 60 certificates up for grabs, it offers you the best chance to win on the Island.

Keep in mind Oak Bluffs covers a lot of ground and there are several participating venues that are located in places other than Circuit Avenue, such as Featherstone Center for the Arts (off of Barnes Road), which continues their eighth annual Holiday Gift Show through December. There’s also Dockside Jewelers in Dockside Marketplace, and New Moon Magick on Chapman Avenue.

Circuit Avenue is its own little holiday village that offers everything you need to get your shopping done in one trip. With sales at most of the shops, it will also be the easiest on your wallet, so if a little extra something for yourself made its way into the shopping bag, well, who could blame you.

Don’t forget that Edgartown’s raffle is also still on until tomorrow night, December 17. With prizes ranging from $100 to $300, it is worth buying a gift for at least $25 to become entered to win.

So everyone get out there and finish your holiday shopping locally.
