With a busy 2010 season behind it, The Yard dance colony in Chilmark is looking ahead to 2011. The organization is preparing to host the Urban Bush Women, which postponed from 2010, and will host the Beijing Modern Dance Company from the People’s Republic of China for the company’s first residency in the United States.
As of November 29, longtime employee Wendy Taucher has stepped down from her post as artistic and executive director. Alison Manning is now General Manager in addition to her existing position of Director of Development. Ms. Taucher has been affiliated with The Yard since 1997 when she was an artist-in-residence. She went on to become a board member, general manager, and curator of special projects. She became artistic director in 2006.
According to a press release, the organization is facing a deficit of $230,000 from the last two seasons, and there is a “Major fundraising campaign that has already made progress in putting The Yard on the road to a more stable position.”
