Healthy workplaces

To the Editor:

It is worth mentioning that throughout all the turmoil and troubles at the Edgartown Council on Aging, some trusted and valued employees have resigned, and there has been great financial cost to Edgartown taxpayers.

Thankfully, the town of Edgartown has, as a direct result of this situation, adopted a healthy workplace bylaw and has streamlined grievance procedures, so that in dealing with future problems, policies and procedures will be clearly in place, which will enable the town and its employees to deal quickly and efficiently with bullying in the workplace and a host of other problems before a major crisis develops.

Hopefully, other Island towns will also adopt healthy workplace bylaws and thereby offer their employees some valuable tools, in the form of policies and procedures necessary to combat bullies in the workplace.
