Where to eat on New Year’s Eve

If you’d like to bid farewell to 2010 and say hello to 2011 festively with food and drink, you’ve got options this year on the Vineyard.

The Lambert’s Cove Inn is hosting its annual New Year’s Eve dinner and dancing bash. There are two seatings for the four-course prix fixe menu, the first at 6 pm for $100 and then at 8 pm for $150. Jeremy Berlin will be on the piano during dinner and at 10:30, local favorite Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish take the stage to bring you into the New Year with his signature bluesy-dance music. Détente in Edgartown is serving a special chef’s tasting menu with the promise of dishes such as lobster and rack of lamb with optional wine pairing. The regular menu, with the vanilla-lychee purée and candied ginger tuna tartar, as well as the confit of rabbit with housemade gnocchi and cauliflower purée, will also be available. Le Grenier in Vineyard Haven is doing an $85 prix fixe menu with appetizer options such as the classic Escargot Bourguignon (snails with butter, garlic, parsley, and shallots); entrée choices include Lobster Normande (lobster with apple brandy, shallots, and cream) and Duck a l’Orange (duck glazed with a sweet orange sauce); finished with irresistible French pastry desserts that I will leave to your imagination (think strawberries, profiteroles, and stuffed crepes). Zephrus is doing a four-course prix fixe for $49 with options such as lamb gnocchi; winter salad with dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, feta, and cranberry vinaigrette; and enticing entrees including baked-stuffed lobster and espresso-pepper rubbed filet mignon. Call for information about spending the night at one of the Mansion House rooms after toasting to the New Year at midnight, 508-693-2200.

State Road Restaurant will offer two dinner seatings on the 31st, the first in between 6 and 6:30 with three courses for $75 per person. The second seating, from 8:30 to 9:30 pm, is five courses for $95 per person. Though the menu is not finalized just yet, possible dishes includeVineyard bay scallops, local pork, and house-made pasta made with local eggs. Diners will have a choice when ordering all courses, and corkage is included in the prix fixe price. Call for reservations: 508-693-8582.

Nicky’s Italian Cafe in Vineyard Haven will be open, serving Italian comfort food along with a few special New Year’s dishes. Call for reservations at 508-696-2020.

Lattanzi’s is serving a traditional Italian New Year’s Eve feast with plenty of seafood and steaks. The exact menu depends on the number of reservations. Call for more information: 508-627-8854.
