Allendorf letter

To the Editor:

What does it take to turn a page? In Edgartown, it appears to be $15 million. The continuing saga, “We must have a library,” has followed the classic line of trip, stumble, and fumble as it lurches toward the goal line.

A great sum has already been spent with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Having just completed a must-have special town meeting to initiate a withdrawal from the Martha’s Vineyard Commission, we have sounds of “we have to tighten our belts,” and “we are in tough economic times,” emanating from town hall.

My suggestion is that we table the entire package, bundle up all the proposals, design plans, minutes of the meetings, wasted architectural efforts, and all mention of this proposal, and place them in a secure place not to be opened for one hundred years.
