Behind the scenes
Ever wonder what it’s like behind the scenes of a musical ballet? Mediation Way, a nonprofit dedicated to bridging cultural, race, and class gaps, presents “Urban Nutcracker: Anatomy of a Ballet,” a documentary about Boston’s BalletRox production of the community-based, multicultural “Urban Nutcracker” by Anthony Williams.
The film premiered at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts in early December 2010, corresponding with BalletRox’s actual performances, which took place throughout December at the Wheelock Family Theatre in Boston.
The one-hour documentary film will be shown at the Capawock Theatre in Vineyard Haven at 2 pm on Sunday, Jan. 16. According to a press release, the film “focuses on diversity, collaboration, and unity. Its mission is to inspire all communities in search of harmony on a local and international level.” Following the screening is a Q&A session where the audience is invited to ask questions of several documentary subjects including Janelle Gilchrist of BalletRox.
WVVY 93.7 FM Community Radio hosts a meeting this coming Wednesday, Jan. 19 at the Vineyard Playhouse, to discuss new ideas, volunteer opportunities, the past three years of operation, and the future of the station. All are welcome. For more information, visit wvvy.org.
