Martha’s Vineyard public schools were closed yesterday, because of the weather but the Vineyard was spared the brunt of a storm that battered New England. School superintendent James Weiss’s office made the announcement of a school closing at 5:23 Wednesday morning.

Edgartown officials closed Edgartown Town Hall.

The Communications Center warned that roads were treacherous.

Dukes County commissioners canceled their meeting, and many town halls closed.

The Steamship Authority canceled ferries.
