Show tunes at the library? Jazz? On Saturday afternoon? Why not? Not many folks showed up at the West Tisbury Library on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm, but those who did were in for a treat.

Vocalist Taffy McCarthy and bassist Bob Johnston offered up an attractive repertoire of show tunes and jazz classics that brought life and joy to a chill hour deep in mid-winter.

Ms. McCarthy has a great voice, and she knows how to use it. Mr. Johnston, an accomplished bass player, went way past the standard rhythm line, with intricate progressions and picking (and vocal harmonies) that complemented Ms. McCarthy beautifully, proving that, in the right hands, two instruments can make a band.

This Saturday, also at 4 pm, Dan Waters and Jemima James will warm up their original American folk duets with acoustic guitar.
