Three Island towns swept the awards for best town reports among all Massachusetts towns in the category of towns with fewer than 5,000 residents in an annual contest sponsored by the Massachusetts Municipal Association (MMA).

Edgartown won first prize for its 2009 town report. Oak Bluffs won second place, and Tisbury was third. In selecting the best town reports, contest judges considered layout and design, quantity and depth of information, organization, originality, and overall usefulness. The towns compile the local statistics, department reports, and financial information each year in time for spring town meetings. The MMA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan association that provides advocacy, training, publications, research, and other services to Massachusetts cities and towns.
