The Vineyard boys varsity hockey team played two games last week against two of the better teams in Division Two.
Martha’s Vineyard closed out a four-game home stand on Jan. 19 against the Franklin Panthers.
The Panthers got off to a fast start. Franklin skated to a 3-0 lead, before Bobby Perry scored his first varsity goal and got the Islanders on the board midway through the second period. Colby Gouldrup and Tyler Araujo assisted.
Franklin restored the three-goal cushion with a power-play goal four minutes into the third period, but the Vineyarders hung tough and cut the deficit again when Goldrup and Tyson Araujo, set up Tyler for M.V.’s second goal with 5:30 left to play. Franklin wrapped up the win with an insurance goal 90 seconds later. The final score was 5 to 2.
Saturday, at the CDL Arena in Raynham, the Vineyarders rallied from a 4-1 second period deficit with two third-period goals against Eastern Athletic Conference rivals Coyle and Cassidy, but lost 4-3.
Tyson Araujo had a goal and two assists. Colby Goldrup and Tyler Araujo scored the other goals for M.V. who stand at 2-7-1.
The Vineyarders scheduled home EAC game with Bishop Stang yesterday, was postponed due to weather.
