To the Editor:
I just read that that the Chilmark board of appeals approved two 14-story wind towers with turbines that may disturb neighborhoods for 50 years. Yet, when a four-foot cell tower in Chilmark, above a telephone pole, was recommended, they were not allowed, although cell towers can and do save lives through enhanced communications.
The Vineyard rarely makes sense to me anymore, which is why many intelligent members of the community are sadly leaving.
I would support community wind towers, but not private ones. Vineyarders already live with the highest gas prices in the nation, the highest food prices, and now private, noisy towers. What kind of intelligent planning is this?
