Elizabeth F. Balco died at her home in Placitas, New Mexico, on January 12.

Ellie, as she was known throughout her life, was born in 1940 in New York City, grew up in Danielson, Connecticut, and graduated from Brown University in 1961.

In a 45-year career as a middle and high school mathematics teacher, she taught at many Connecticut schools including the Norwich Free Academy and the Greenwich Country Day School, and at Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

She was a seasonal resident of West Chop since 1976. She is survived by her second husband, James Romero, two children from a first marriage, three of Jim’s children, and one grandchild.
